Resolution of Support for the July 2009

California Democratic Party’s

Unanimous Resolution Calling for a United Ireland

Whereas, Veterans For Peace is a national organization of men and women veterans of all eras and duty stations including from the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), World War II, the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf and Current Iraq/Afghanistan wars, as well as other conflicts; and

Whereas, Veterans For Peace, having dutifully served our nation, affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace. Furthermore, included in our Statement of Purpose, are the goals to seek justice for veterans and victims of war and to abolish war as an instrument of national policy; and

Whereas, given the peaceful end of hostilities in the north of Ireland with the Good Friday Agreement and the creation of All-Ireland institutions of governance, the California Democratic Party passed a unanimous resolution in July 2009 calling for a United Ireland;

Therefore be it Resolved, that the Veterans For Peace, San Francisco/Bay Area Chapter 69, strongly supports the California Democratic Party’s resolution calling for Irish Reunification by all electoral and diplomatic means necessary; and

Be It Further Resolved, that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Irish American Unity Conference, Northern California chapter, to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and to the San Francisco Labor Council, who have already passed resolutions of support.
